An Unwavering Commitment to Safety and Health
We are firmly committed to the safety, health and wellbeing of our employees. Safety is integrated into all aspects of a project from start to finish. A project is not successful unless it is completed safely. We strive to provide the safest worksites possible for our employees, our clients, subcontractors and the public.
Commitment
High level safety performance requires commitment from all levels of the organization, from the field to senior leadership. We are committed to creating a culture of safety where every employee is actively engaged in injury and illness prevention. To support this commitment, we have a fully staffed Safety Department consisting of Regional and Area Safety Managers, Site Safety Coordinators as well as corporate-level support. We adhere to policies and procedures that are often times above and beyond industry standards.
Trained and Knowledgeable Workforce
We equip all employees with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform their jobs without incident. Training and education is provided at all levels of the organization on a regular and ongoing basis. From basic hazard recognition to Safety Leadership classes; training and education is a cornerstone of our program. One of the key messages in every training session is – if it’s not safe, we don’t do it. Every employee has the right, and the obligation, to stop unsafe work.
Planning and Risk Assessment
We use a multi-tiered approach to risk assessment to ensure the safest possible projects. A Project Safety Plan is set in motion long before any craft personnel ever set foot on a project. Job Hazard Analyses are developed and refined for every phase of work. A field-level Task Safety Analysis is completed every day in every work area to identify and mitigate any potential hazards. All phases of the risk assessment process focus on the most serious and/or frequent hazards we have identified over years and years of incident analysis. We call these hazards the Six Critical Risks. Continual Improvement
We continually seek to refine and improve our safety and health program. We do this by performing frequent and regular safety inspections; thorough incident and near miss investigations; and conducting regular audits of our program. We use a web-based EHS management platform that increases visibility of our safety efforts and opens lines of communication across the entire company. By monitoring a combination of leading and lagging indicators we can better measure safety performance and focus our efforts and resources more effectively.
Results
These efforts pay off year after year with injury and illness rates significantly below industry average. Over the last several years our lost time frequency rate has been over ten times better than the national average. Our most important goal however is that all employees return home each day safe and well.
